A few months later, she began to earn a decent living for herself. All she did was help companies prepare cold emails and sales letters, among other things.    I hope this can go without mentioning, but no, I will say it anyway. Lisa learned everything she knew about copywriting at home. And funny enough, she also does all her jobs right from her home in a tank top and shorts.   You may be scratching your head right now, wondering what skills you can learn while you’re at home. New Skills To Learn at Home During Quarantine

1. Learn A New Language

It doesn’t matter if your written or spoken English is superb. It also doesn’t matter if it’s one of the most popular languages in the world either. There are a gazillion other languages you can learn and benefit from.   You can learn Spanish, French, Chinese, Hindi, and Arabic during your spare time at home. All you need is a smart device and an internet connection.   There are many language courses you can purchase online. And they aren’t expensive either.   It’s an investment that’s worth it, mainly for two reasons.    First, improving your skill set makes you more employable in the labor market. Secondly, you can make some money with your new language by teaching others how to speak it.    Here’s a little bit of information you may not be aware of. Teachers of foreign languages can earn up to $47,000 per year.   In America, translators make up to $19 per hour, and if you are certified by the American Translators Association, you can earn as much as $66 per hour.   Of course, you won’t learn how to speak a new language overnight. It will take some time before you become fluent. But all you need is consistent practice, and you’ll get there faster than you thought was possible.   Another advantage of learning a new language is this – You may find yourself in a country where the new language is widely spoken, and it will surely help you get along with the locals faster.

2. Learn How To Cook

Let’s face it, food is one of the essential things in the world, and it’s not just for the sake of nourishment. I mean, who doesn’t enjoy a tasty meal?   If you don’t already know how to cook, then you should learn how to. It’s one of the most effortless skills to learn during the quarantine. All you need is a decent kitchen, some utensils, and some ingredients to work with.   Don’t fret if you don’t have anyone around to teach you. There are cooking books and videos you can buy online to improve your culinary skills or begin your journey to becoming a great chef.   These courses are packed with all sorts of recipes, and you don’t have to learn all of them. For starters, a few recipes will do.   The great thing about learning how to cook is that people eat every day, and they are willing to pay top dollar for a sumptuous meal.    You can choose to learn simple, everyday recipes or more complex continental dishes. The choice is yours.   Whichever you choose, just keep in mind that professional chefs earn between $15 to $31 per hour.    You can also develop your unique recipes and teach interested persons how to prepare them via a WhatsApp class, YouTube video, or online cookbooks.

3. DIY Safes And Storage Boxes

The acronym DIY has been around for a very long time. And It stands for Do It Yourself.    While there are several aspects to DIY, such as plumbing, fixing shelves, felling trees, etc., you can also learn DIY safe building.   Using a wooden model kit, you can learn how to build a safe using your unique lock combination.   People will always need storage space to keep their valuables like documents, pieces of jewelry, and even cash. This means there is a high demand for your new skill.   You can put your new skill to work by manufacturing your storage box/safe or making and selling it to others.   In case you didn’t know, locksmiths and safe repairers earn between $25,000 to $36,000 per annum.

4. Basic Home Repairs

What better skill to learn at home than necessary home repairs?   Now and then, a pipe will bust a leak, or there’ll be a crack in the fence, and learning how to fix minor damages in the house is a skill you can learn while you’re at home.   You may indeed have zero experience being handy around the house, and there may be no one around to teach you. Nonetheless, you can go online and buy a home repair guide to get a headstart.   In the guide, you will be taught everything you need to know about basic home repairs, and you’d be surprised how easy it is.   My neighbor Jack, who used to spend thousands of dollars per year on repairs, decided to learn basic home repair during the quarantine period.   A couple of months later, he’s gotten the hang of it. He even offered me his services in case I had anything around my house that needed fixing. I’m guessing he’s not planning to do it for free.

5. How To Be Positive

When there’s a lot of negative energy flying around, the worst thing you can do is catch the “self-doubt bug.” The worst part of this kind of bug is that you can pass it around to your family members.    This is because energy is contagious, and when you remain positive, those around you are likely to catch the vibe. But when you are always giving off negative energy, those around you could catch the negative vibe too!   Believe it or not, knowing how to remain positive, even when the chips are down, is a skill. And it’s a skill that people desperately need right now.   When you wake up in the morning, look at yourself in the mirror and hype yourself up by saying uplifting things. Tell yourself you can succeed, do what you set your mind to do, that you are the best, and that you are more significant than whatever problems or challenges you are currently facing.   If you perform this as a ritual every day, you will begin to see positive changes in your life quality.   You can also buy and read self-motivating guides if you need extra help. Guides like these will keep you motivated, positive, and full of enthusiasm.

6. Microsoft Excel

While you’re at home, you could also use your spare time to develop a skill in Microsoft Excel.   You can learn simple excel functions like creating, editing, reviewing, and sharing worksheets. You can purchase the Microsoft Excel 2019 all-in-one pack to begin.   With this tool, you’ll get an 8-in-one pack that’ll teach you all you need to know about basic and advanced Microsoft Excel functions.   You may be wondering if learning Excel is worth it. Well, it is.   With your Excel skills, you can build and design Excel templates and sell them in online shops. You can also develop ad-ins and put them up for sale in Android app stores.   If you’re not interested in designing and selling templates, you can teach others how to do so for a fee. You can use your skills to work as a freelancer. And if those don’t interest you, honing your Microsoft Excel skills may help you keep track of your finances.   Need I mention that an Excel expert in America earns as much as $47,000 per year?   I’m pretty sure you’re convinced that knowledge of Microsoft Excel would be a great addition to your already-existing skillset.

7. SEO Writing And Content Marketing

One of the best skills you can learn from your home’s comfort is SEO writing and content marketing. Please don’t be confused; they are pretty straightforward concepts.   SEO means search engine optimization. And SEO writing means producing written content using specific keywords that will allow your content to rank higher when a person does a Google search in related fields.   On the other hand, content marketing uses content such as videos and articles to sell a product or service indirectly.   Like other skills on this list, SEO/content writing is teachable, and you can learn it yourself. You could purchase many great resources to learn SEO writing and content marketing. And all you need to begin is a smartphone, tablet, or laptop. With an internet connection, of course!   On average, an SEO writer can make around $30,000 per year!

8. Copywriting

Copywriting isn’t quite the same as content marketing. In comparison, the latter aims to indirectly market a product or service using videos or text; the former creates awareness for a business, product, or service using texts. The sole aim of a copywriter is to prompt the potential customer to take action.   You can learn this skill by purchasing a copywriting guide, which will teach you handy copywriting secrets.   You can use this skill to work as a freelancer and earn up to $28 per hour!   Freelance sites like Fiverr, Upwork, and Freelancers are packed with clients looking to hire people with this skill.    The good news is, you can work from the comfort of your home like my friend, Lisa, or anywhere else. Once you have your laptop and a stable internet connection, you’re good to go.

9. Technical Writing

Another aspect of writing which you could learn at home is technical writing. This is merely creating written content revolving around the field of tech. You may have to cover topics like computer hardware and software, robotics, mobile devices, aeronautics, and the likes.   Working as a freelance tech writer, you can earn up to $25 per hour.   Purchase a technical writing guide to learn the tricks of the trade. Such guides will teach you all you need to be on your way to becoming a great tech writer.   To secure writing gigs, you can sign up on freelance sites such as Upwork, Fiverr, and freelancer. On platforms like these, you will find thousands of clients who need your services.   Why not begin today?

10. Photography

Mike, an old friend who used to work cleaning gigs, was stuck at home during the lockdown period. Now, you’re probably wondering why I keep lots of junk friends. Well, they are not junk per se. They are street smart too, as you will come to find out in the case of Mike.   He had a Nikon camera with a well-detailed manual, but he never showed much interest in using it, neither did he know photography could earn him some good money.   Not until he met Zack, who was making big bucks selling photos on stock websites and teaching kids the art of photography.   Zack was easily doing between $40,000 to $70,000 per year from his photography business, which left Mike in awe!   Mike put his Nikon camera to use, taking pics of anything he could set his eyes on. He also started watching photography tutorials on YouTube.    A few months down the line, and Mike’s learned the art of photography. All he has to do now is monetize his newly acquired skill.

11. Painting

Would you like to learn a skill that would pay you as much as $37,000 per annum? Why not try painting?   I know you may have never held a paintbrush before, and you’ve got no one around to teach you. However, that shouldn’t be a problem.   You can purchase a simple paint by numbers kit for beginners and get started. Anyone can use this kit. The numbers on the board make the learning process a lot easier.   With consistent practice, you’ll get the hang of it.

12. Learn A Musical Instrument

Have you ever dreamt of being a rock band member or playing in front of a live audience? Maybe you have, but there’s one little problem – You can’t play any musical instruments.   If you’ve got time on your hands (like the pandemic has conditioned you to do), then it’s up to you to bring that dream to reality. You can learn several instruments, including piano, drums, saxophone, guitar, and the violin.   \Those who know how to play instruments will tell you it is a very financially rewarding skill.    You can make between $40,000 to $180,000 per year playing an instrument. If you’re lucky enough to hook up with a celebrity musician, then you can make a lot more!   Guitars are among the easiest instruments to learn, and with a guitar starter pack for beginners, you can learn the basics and improve your skills from there.   Another way you can make money from your new skill is by teaching others how to play. A guitar teacher rakes in between $40 to $80 per hour. Not bad at all.   Who knows, sometime soon, you could be on a world tour with Coldplay!
